The Shutka Book of Records - an Aleksandar Manic Film

Happy Valley is a two-time winner of the Czech State Grant for Cinema. This 90 minute feature documentary reveals the secret life of Shutka, a Macedonian village known as the Roma-capital of the world.

In order to escape poverty and life on the margins of society, some of the inhabitants of Shutka choose to live for their phantasies. They organize geese fights, tournaments in pidgeon flying or they play tapes with sentimental Turkish music.

They chase vampires, exterminate Genies or try to dematerialize themselves, like Uncle Fazli, the greatest wizzard of Europe. It is the forthright candour of passion that keeps their hopes alive.
